Tuesday , 15 October was World Handwash day, a global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives.
The 2019 Global Handwashing Day theme is “Clean Hands for All.” This year’s theme follows the push to leave no one behind in the Sustainable Development agenda. Inequalities in handwashing facilities and lack of effective handwashing promotion programs can put individuals at higher risk for diseases that impact their health, education, and economic outcomes.
Unilever revealed that Lifebuoy has improved the handwashing behaviours of 1 billion people which was originally the target for 2020 but was a year ahead of time.
What started as a simple handwashing programme in three countries a decade ago has evolved into a fully-fledged mission to prevent illnesses globally.
